Chaudi is where Canacona does its shopping. There is a covered fish and vegetable market, a row of grocers, pharmacies, a bank and the sort of small restaurants where the thali is whatever was cooked that morning. Nobody is selling to tourists here, which is precisely its charm.
With a kitchenette in your suite, Chaudi becomes part of the routine: mangoes and cashews in season, fresh bread from the poder in the morning, prawns for dinner. The fish market is busiest around eight.
Best time: Between eight and ten in the morning.
