Cotigao is the forest that begins where the coconut groves end. It is not a safari park — you will not see tigers — but you will see hornbills, giant squirrels, and, if you climb the watchtower at dawn, the forest waking up. A few marked trails lead from the interpretation centre; the longest takes a couple of hours.
Go early, before the heat, and take the scooter or a taxi — the sanctuary is on the main road, so it is an easy half day that pairs well with a lunch stop in Chaudi market on the way back.
Best time: As early as you can manage; November to February.
