Palolem Heights
Empty sand and soft surf at a protected South Goa beach

Beach · 10 km from the house

Galgibaga & Talpona

Two of Goa's emptiest beaches, separated by a river mouth — pine-backed sand, turtle nests, and often nobody else at all.

South of Canacona the coast opens into two long beaches, Talpona and Galgibaga, divided by a river. Galgibaga is a protected turtle-nesting beach backed by casuarina pines, and the Forest Department keeps development to almost nothing. On a weekday morning you can walk its length and meet only fishermen.

There is one or two seasonal shacks and a lot of silence. It is the beach to bring a picnic to when you want to remember what the coast looked like before anyone arrived.

Best time: Weekday mornings.
